About the Festival

Hollywood is Coming to the South’Ñ¢!

The Charlotte region has been the site of several major Hollywood motion pictures such as The Patriot, Shallow Hal, Cold Mountain, Days of Thunder and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. We hosted the Inaugural Cackalacky Film Festival’Ñ¢ October 18-22, 2006.

Over 50 films were shown at a variety of great venues in Center City and Southend including the Overcash Performing Arts Center and the Design Center in Southend. Full features, shorts, documentaries, and student films from all over the world were featured during the 5 day event along with sessions with filmmakers, directors, and actors who make these independent films possible. In addition, the festival hosted a opening night gala at the Dale F. Halton Theatre and its Awards Night was held at the Atrium at the Design Center in Southend.

The festival goal is to raise the awareness, appreciation and understanding of the art of cinema with a mandate to present outstanding films from all over the world. Individuals and companies are invited to be a part of this event as a volunteer or as a sponsor. This festival will be an annual event.

’ÄúThis could mean a lot to Charlotte to show the film industry how serious we are about supporting the arts in the region. An event like this can help filmmakers in Hollywood be more inclined to want to make their movies in an area that welcomes them and supports the work of artists.’Äù
